The Online Level 1 Food Safety Awareness Course, also known as the Online Food Hygiene Course, is for people who work in the Food Industry and do not handle or prepare High Risk Food.

Please note that it is a recommendation, as well as good practice, that anyone who prepares or handles food served to clients in vulnerable groups, i.e. the elderly, the sick or the young, should always take the extra precaustion of undertaking the Online Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.

Who needs a Level 1 Awareness Food Hygiene/Safety Certificate?

All emplyees who work in the Food Industry, either in the Catering, Manufacturing or Retail Sectors, should complete a form of Food Hygiene Training at their required Level. There are two levels of Basic Food Hygiene Training. Level 2 Food Hygiene Training, also known as Basic Food Hygiene Training, is intended for those who handle and/or prepare High Risk Foods. In addition to this, Level 1 Food Hygiene Training, also known as Food Safety Awareness Training, is specifically for people who work in the Food Industry who either handle Low Risk Foods or who do not handle or prepare food.

Here are some examples people who should take the Level 1 Food Safety Awareness Course:-

  • Bar staff (handling bottled drinks and packaged sandwiched)
  • Waiters and waitresses (for example, carrying food only)
  • Manufacturers of low risk food (for example, packaing raw meat)
  • Shop staff (for example, packaged goods such as deli items)

What areas does this Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate Course cover?

This Level 1 Food Safety Course follows the same syllabus as the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, CIEH. Food Hygiene Regulations requires operatives to train food handlers on Food Hygiene & Safety Principles. Therefore, this course's content covers all of the core elements of Food Hygiene & Safety. The course covers the following areas:-

  • The importance and use of the right protective clothing
  • The importance of and correct handwashing procedures
  • The importance of reporting illness
  • The importance of wound dressings
  • The legal responsibilities of you as a food handler
  • Keeping your work area and equipment clean and tidy
  • Waste disposal and the frequency of waste disposal
  • Contamination and Cross-Contamination
  • Basic rules for safe food storage
  • The hazards caused by pests
  • Food Safety hazards in your workplace

CPD food Hygiene Certification

Once you successfully complete our Online Training, your Food Hygiene Certificate will automatically appear on the computer screen, ready for you to print immediately. In addition to this, you will also recieve a back up copy via email to your chosen email address. How long does the Food Hygiene Training at Level 1 take?

The Level 1 Food Safety Certificate Awareness Training will take on average 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete. The training is split into 11 different modules, which each cover a different area of Food Hygiene Principles and Practices. Each module will vary in length. This is only a guide time and some trainees may take less time to complete the training, while other may need more time. This is not a problem as the course is designed to be entirely flexible to the users needs. This is extremely helpful for trainees that may have learning difficulties, or individuals that are less familiar with using computers or E-Learning.

Assessment

The Level 1 Hygiene Assessment will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The assessment is multiple choice and consists of 20 questions. These questons are randomly generated from a question bank of over 60 questions. To pass the assessment and gain your Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate you must achieve a score of 67%, 13 out of 20. If for any reason you fail the course we will provide you a resit completely free of charge. This is on the assumption you have completed all of the learning material before attempting the assessment.
